      Szia Sherylee,

thank you again for this great sentence! 🙂

“Az ideges színész vár, hogy megsérthesse a menedzsert, mert a gyertya és az olló a tükör előtt voltak.”

The nervous actor is waiting for finally hurting the manager, because the candle and the scissors were in front of the mirror.

      Literally, this would be:

“The nervous actor waits that hurt-can-he the manager, because the candle and the scissors the mirror in-front-of were.”

megsérthesse: -hat / -het are suffixes that indicate that someone is able or allowed to do something – the nervous actor is waiting for finally being able to hurt the manager.

menedzserT: this is where I’d put the accusative, since “the manager” is the answer to the question “Whom or what does the actor want to hurt?”

gyertya & olló: they are simply being in front or the mirror, so no need to turn them into the accusative case. 🙂

“voltak” = were, referring to the gyertya and the olló – they were in front of the mirror. Therefore, “volt” (was) turns into “voltak” (were – plural).

Hope this is a bit more clear!

I really like your sentences Sherylee! Hope my explanations make sense to you and let me know if anything remains unclear!

Köszi Juli, your replies are VERY helpful! One day I hope I will be able to automatically know which words are accusative, but still it is fun to see how it works in Hungarian.
