Meaning:

principally

 

Used a lot more often and more colloquially, than in English.

 

Pronunciation:

 

Example sentences:

Elvileg úgy volt, hogy holnap találkozunk

Principally that-way was, that tomorrow meet-we.

[Principally] we were supposed to meet tomorrow. (Putting “principally” in brackets, because it doesn’t sound natural to add it to the English sentence, but it is very natural in Hungarian.)

 

Elvileg mégse megyünk holnap úszni.

Principally not-after-all go-we tomorrow to-swim.

[Principally] it looks like we’re not going swimming tomorrow after all.

    Hi,
    I think you are confusing the different English meanings of “principally” and “in principle”.
    I think “elvileg” is “in principle”, or “in theory”.
    Főként = principally.
